Welcome to the Department Of Additional Languages, SH College, Thevara. The Department was established in 1944 and is a composite department of four major languages Sanskrit, Malayalam, Hindi and French. The study of language and literature is essential for students to have a deep understanding of culture and it is the expression of ideas.
I had the privilege of studying French during my first two years of college, despite my main subject being Mathematics. My interest in French, taught by Dr. Shobha Liz John, led me to clear my DELF A2 and B1 exams. In my final year, I was selected for the “Assistante de langue Anglais” program by the French Ministry of National Education. I worked at Lycée Philippe Lamour in Nîmes for seven months as an English language assistant. Initially overwhelming, the experience significantly improved my French. From handling calls with La CAF to reading French books, my confidence grew. Living with a Costa Rican who spoke only Spanish and French helped me think in French. Teaching 15-18-year-olds exposed me to the French education system. I visited eight countries and many French departments, gaining valuable international experiences. I am grateful to Sacred Heart College, especially Dr. Shobha Liz John, for supporting my journey.
